Editorial Consulting

DO YOU WANT TO WRITE A BOOK?

I, Cristine, can help you with that! I specialize in the manuscript development of:

  • Non-fiction, self-help, and motivational books
  • Devotional and inspirational teaching books
  • Turning sermons into books

I began Wings Unlimited Editorial Services in 1999 to launch the anointed voices of new authors who share my passion for reconciling readers to God.

For four decades, I have worked with authors to conceptualize their ideas and tell their best stories in a well-planned book. I have authored, ghostwritten, or contributed to over 30 best-selling titles and developed hundreds of manuscripts while working with national publishers.

Non-fiction books are written to inform, persuade, or entertain readers. The best books accomplish all three goals. The path to reach these objectives is best determined before writing the script.

As your writing coach and first reader of the story you want to tell, I will help you decide where to start, which stories to include to make your point, and how to make a powerful conclusion.

I teach pre-writing skills to organize your thoughts and overcome writer’s block. I will explore with you a working outline for your message and keep you focused on your intended audience.

In our initial creative meeting, we will identify the goals and intentions of your message.

If you already have a written manuscript, the creative planning meeting establishes your purpose and marketing goals before the first edit.

Meeting face-to-face is preferred, but online consultation is an option if travel is prohibited.

THREE EDITORIAL STAGES

DEVELOPMENT EDIT

A development editor meets with you before you start writing to plan, organize, outline, and define the overall goals of your message. Your development editor will review your first draft and offer comments to ensure clarity and enhance the overall message.

SUBSTANTIVE EDIT

A substantive editor assists with any extensive rewriting to make your message clear and convincing.

COPY EDIT & PROOFING

A copy editor reviews the accuracy of grammar and formatting to conform to your publisher’s standards and/or consistency with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) guidelines. Your proofreader reviews the final typeset and page design to see that no new errors were made.

While multiple stages may be needed to complete your work, Wings Unlimited offers development services to assist in creating clear, concise messages that are rational and edifying.

DEVELOPMENT EDIT PRICING

The editorial creative meeting is billable per consulting hour and is normally accomplished in six to ten hours.

Development editing is priced per manuscript page and payable in two installments: one/half to initiate services and the balance upon completion of the development edit.

Development includes:

  • A 6 to-10-hour creative meeting
  • Mentoring the writing process
  • A written summary of goals
  • A working title/outline
  • Development of the first draft

SO, DO YOU REALLY NEED AN EDITOR?

Have you ever noticed the number of people listed in the credits of a great movie? The skills of many talented people trained to look at various details are needed to create the finest presentation of any message. The editorial process of creating a book is the most crucial investment of your time and production budget before financing the printing of 10 or 10,000 copies of your message.

Your development editor is your first reader who gives valuable feedback on the impact of your message and will assist you in making clear and convincing points.

I give you honest feedback when a point you make needs more support to be convincing. I will highlight strong “hooks” to capture attention in the marketplace.
